US Reveals LUCAS One-Way Attack Drones Used in Iran Strikes, Modeled on Iranian Shahed 136
The United States military has disclosed the deployment of LUCAS (Low-cost Unmanned Combat Attack System) drones in its ongoing strikes against Iran, a new class of one-way kamikaze-style weapons modeled on Iran's own Shahed 136 design. Developed by Arizona-based SpektreWorks in cooperation with the U.S. military, the delta-wing drones measure approximately 10 feet long with an 8-foot wingspan and can be launched via catapults, rocket-assisted takeoff, or mobile ground and vehicle systems. LUCAS drones were deployed by Task Force Scorpion Strike (TFSS), a unit established to rapidly field affordable drone technology against high-value targets. The disclosure highlights the irony of the U.S. adapting Iranian drone design philosophy — itself originally derived from American and Israeli designs — to use against Iran in Operation Epic Fury.
