Israeli F-16s Spotted Carrying Suspected White Phosphorus JDAMs
Israeli Air Force F-16C/D Barak jets have been photographed carrying 2,000-pound GBU-31 JDAMs with unusual red nose bands, markings that indicate an incendiary payload under U.S. munitions standards. The War Zone identifies the likely weapon as the BLU-119/B Crash PAD, containing approximately 145 lbs of high explosive and 420 lbs of white phosphorus, originally developed to incinerate chemical and biological weapon stockpiles. The weapon is significant given Iran's suspected chemical and biological research capabilities, as well as potential hazards at nuclear facilities. White phosphorus burns at approximately 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit and its use in densely populated areas is considered a violation of international law.
